EXP-004 — Rose Infusion
Coffee
Country: Ethiopia
Region: Hambela, Guji
Varietal: Local landrace
Farm: Sibu Coffee
Process: Washed
Altitude: 1900-2100 m.a.s.l.
Grade: 1
Roast Level: Light Roast
Tasting Notes: floral, honey sweetness, soft rose aroma
This coffee begins with a washed Ethiopian lot known for its delicate floral aromatics and natural sweetness. The roast profile is intentionally kept light to preserve the essential characteristics of the coffee itself while allowing room for subtle experimental influence.
Experiment
This batch explores botanical infusion and aroma transfer using rose petals and water.
Fresh rose petals were first brewed into a tea, and the liquid’s TDS was measured and recorded to maintain consistency for future trials.
The coffee was then infused using a sealed keg system. Nitrogen gas was introduced to create controlled pressure, allowing the rose aromatics to transfer into the beans over a timed period. This method enables a gentle and controlled infusion.
Result
The rose infusion remains very subtle and delicate, adding:
• a soft floral lift
• an extra layer of sweetness
• a slightly rounder aromatic profile
The goal is not to turn the coffee into a flavored drink, but to introduce a quiet botanical nuance that sits alongside the natural character of the Ethiopian coffee.
Our coffee bags are 100% compostable.
