About the El Socorro:

Nestled in the Palencia municipality, just 50 kilometers from Guatemala City, El Socorro Farm is a testament to tradition, innovation, and a passion for exceptional coffee. Spanning an altitude of 5,050 to 6,100 feet above sea level, the farm boasts loamy-sandy soil and an ideal microclimate with an average temperature of 23°C, 1,500mm of annual rainfall, and 60% relative humidity.

Originally part of Hacienda San Guayaba, El Socorro returned to the family in 1968 when Dr. Mario de la Cerda and his wife, Maria Colom de la Cerda, took ownership. In 1980, their son, Juan de la Cerda Colom, began planting coffee, marking the beginning of a legacy. Now in its fourth generation, Juan and his son Juan Diego oversee the farm, producing some of Guatemala’s finest coffees.

The farm prides itself on strict quality control at every stage—from plantation management and meticulous handpicking to an efficient ecological wet mill. This mill depulps coffee cherries without water, reuses resources, and employs clean production techniques to treat water responsibly. Innovations such as uniform fermentation using hot water have further refined their process. Coffee is sun-dried on patios and in greenhouses, ensuring unparalleled quality.

El Socorro’s commitment to excellence has earned it numerous accolades, including multiple Cup of Excellence awards, cementing its reputation as one of the best coffee producers in Guatemala. With a harvest season running from January to April and an annual production of 1,000 (69-kg) bags, the farm continues to deliver coffee that reflects its rich heritage and unwavering dedication to quality.
