About This Coffee

Grown in the high elevations of Kayanza Province in northern Burundi, this natural-processed Red Bourbon lot comes from the Kibingo Washing Station, perched at 1,893 meters above sea level. The station serves over 1,700 smallholder farmers from 18 surrounding hills, each farmer cultivating just a few hundred trees in backyard plots—a hallmark of Burundi’s uniquely micro-lot culture.

Kibingo’s operations are led by Greenco, a company known for its community-forward approach. Farmers are organized into groups with appointed leaders to streamline support and training. The station itself houses 165 raised drying tables, 10 fermentation tanks, and provides organic compost and subsidized seedlings to encourage replanting of aging Bourbon trees.

After harvest, cherries are handpicked, sorted for ripeness, and floated to remove under-ripes. They are then dried slowly on raised beds over 20–28 days with meticulous defect removal throughout. Once dried, the coffee undergoes hand-sorting under UV light at Burundi’s largest dry mill in Gitega, ensuring exceptional quality and traceability.

Tasting Notes

Regent's take on this bean utilizes a light roast level to uncover a fruit-forward and clean natural with vivid notes of raspberry, cacao nib, and honey, balanced by a subtle black tea-like tannin and sparkling citrus acidity. Look for a sweet, juicy finish with hints of orange zest, stone fruit, and cane sugar.
