Our Story
Before founding Regent Coffee, Leon was a banker in China—crunching numbers by day, but dreaming of something more hands-on, more creative. In 2012, he picked up coffee roasting as a hobby, using a small home setup to experiment with beans and profiles. It quickly turned into a passion. Two years later, he installed a commercial roaster in his garage and began honing his craft.
Today, Leon has logged over 4,360 hours, roasted more than 15,000 batches on our current machine alone. His approach is part precision, part instinct—shaped by years of repetition, curiosity, and relentless pursuit of quality.
Regent wasn’t built overnight. It’s the result of starting over, chasing a vision, and building something from the ground up.
At Regent Coffee, our mission is simple: make exceptional coffee—consistently, responsibly, and with uncompromising attention to detail.
For us, roasting is both an art and a science. It’s about mastering the technical process—temperature curves, airflow, development times—but also about intuition, experience, and tasting everything with a critical eye. We start with high-quality green beans from producers we trust, then roast each batch to bring out the best of its origin, character, and complexity.
Whether you're brewing at home or enjoying a cup at one of our locations, we want every experience to reflect that balance of precision and passion. Coffee isn’t just our product—it’s our craft, our business, and our way of sharing something excellent, every single day.
The philosophy behind Regent Coffee is "Furinkazan" which means "Wind, Forest, Fire, and Mountain." This is a Japanese popularized version of the battle standard used by the Sengoku period daimyo Takeda. This is a phrase that quotes four phrases from Sun Tzu's The Art of War. The whole phrase is "as swift as wind, as gentle as forest, as fierce as fire, as unshakable as mountain." This is how I see Regent Coffee. Especially as a mountain; one that is unshakable. We want to build and grow with honor and to spread our name. We want others to learn more about coffee, understand it, bringing happiness to every sip.
